The team at Porterhouse Medical is proud to have been given the ‘Highly Commended’ award at the Thames Valley Business Magazine’s 2016 Awards Ceremony last week, in the SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) category.

The Awards, in their 22nd year, honour companies, organisations, teams and individuals in a wide variety of categories including Business of the Year, Charity of the Year and Business Person of the Year.

The SME of the Year Award is open to businesses with an annual turnover between £500K and £10m that have been operating for at least two years.

Brian Parsons, Co-founder and Joint Managing Director, said, “It’s very rewarding to see that all the hard work put in by our staff over the past few years has been recognized in this way, especially in our own region. We are very proud of our connections with the Thames Valley. It’s a great place to set up a business – and the fierce competition evident at last week’s awards ceremony is testament to this.”

The Thames Valley is one of the UK’s most buoyant regions, boasting many dynamic and successful businesses, including high-tech manufacturing companies as well as a huge variety of service industries. Other local companies competing for SME of the Year at last night’s event comprised Creative Nature, Gekko Field Marketing, Loxone UK, NAV People and Primal Pantry.

Porterhouse Medical, a medical and scientific communications company, was established in 2002 by Brian Parsons and Jon Hallows. The UK-based company employs over 40 staff and had a turnover of £4.1 million in 2015/2016. The company is a powerhouse of intellectual endeavor: most employees are university educated, many with further degrees.

Jon Hallows, Co-founder and Joint Managing Director, said, “2016 has been a great year for Porterhouse. In April, we also won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise (International Trade) in recognition of our rapid growth in overseas sales. Porterhouse’s values have contributed greatly to this success. We focus on concepts such as sharing, passion, humour and entrepreneurship, and we never lose sight of the fact that ultimately what we are trying to do is help patients.”

The glamorous Porterhouse team enjoyed a fun evening at the Awards dinner, held in the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre (Madejski Stadium) and compered by the very witty Gyles Brandreth. The evening was heightened by the fact that our chosen charity, Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, won Charity of the Year too.

Well done everyone! Anyone for Champagne …?
